Our History

Our History

Circle of HandsIn 2008, a group of women in the recovery community were recruited to discuss how they could better assist women suffering from substance abuse disorder.  The group quickly identified the need for long term, gender specific recovery residences.

In 2009, after working nine years in local treatment centers, a member of the original group of women opened the doors of her home providing eight beds to women in recovery.  Within a month, Homestead had their first resident and the dream of many became a reality.  Soon after a Board of Directors was recruited and Homestead Women’s Recovery, Inc. became incorporated and received its 501(c)3 status from the State of Georgia.

In 2014, through the generosity of many individuals Homestead acquired property and a new 12 bed facility was constructed.  Since then over 140 women have completed Homesteads 12 month program. Over the years, we continue to receive generous donations of bedding, supplies, furniture and items to make the facility and grounds more therapeutic, useful and beautiful for our residents.
